Youth Training and Development
Youth Training and Development has developed a program, Project “Excel”, to provide automobile technician training for disadvantaged youth in the Washington metropolitan area. The program is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, in conjunction with the D.C. Private Industry Council. The Ford Motor Company also has made significant contributions to the project. The training program was initiated in the Fall of 1998 at a former D.C. school facility in conjunction with a newly designated D.C. “Charter School.” On-going management of the project has been spun off to a separate organization, the Excel Institute.
